what on earth do you guys in the US do when a hurricane hits? like, what do you do with your horses? i just watched a clip of hurricane katrina wash away nearly a whole city, and another of a tornado rip an entire town to shreds. i worry myself sick over my…
I live in Houston and we have hurricanes every now and then, and if you cant evacuate, we usually spray paint our numbers on the horses and turn them out into the pastures. For Katrina we had quite a few people evacuate to our stables. So its really either get out if you can, or tag them and turn them out. It is also very hard to get livestock out of a city before a hurricane, temperatures sky rocket and traffic is terrible. The reason we could not get out during hurricane Ike, was because the traffic was to bad and the heat was to hot and it became dangerous for the horses (since the trailer got so hot). So we turned them out and came back early in the morning when the hurricane wasn’t as bad.

except that they used a friesian in the film ffs
So I was at a preparation course for one of my BHS exams and we where talking about riding hats and people that wear or don’t wear them. And Anne, the lady running the course, brought out this helmet.
Now I’m fairly certain this is one of those expensive helmets?
But look at the state of it. This happened when a barefoot horse stood on it by accident when he got loose.
Now. Can we incorporate this into #dontbeafruit ?
Because I’m pretty sure that if a barefoot horse can do this to a piece of equipment that is supposed to save your life, then imagine what can happen when you place his hoof on your head because of your ‘bond’ and your ‘un-breakable trust’
